Zcash vote favors faster blocks while preserving supply schedule

Zcash holders have strongly supported shorter block times and the existing halving schedule in a vote on the proposed NU7 upgrade. Nearly 2.4 million ZEC participated, representing roughly two-thirds of eligible tokens and giving developers a clearer signal about the changes holders want prioritized.
About 99.9% of participating voting weight favored reducing block intervals from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. A separate 98.9% supported retaining scheduled halvings, which periodically reduce the issuance reward paid to miners. The results combine demand for faster transaction processing with support for the established monetary timetable.
Votes were weighted by eligible ZEC, rather than by the number of people participating. The process allowed qualifying shielded balances to contribute without publicly exposing individual holdings. Participants also supported postponing the reissuance of funds collected through the Network Sustainability Mechanism until February 2031.
The vote establishes preferences; it does not activate the changes on the network. Implementation and testing remain necessary before the selected features can enter an upgrade. That distinction matters for users expecting faster confirmations: the result advances the roadmap, while the operating network changes only when the software is deployed.
