Coinbase has introduced derivatives contracts for eligible Canadian customers, widening the range of markets available through its platform. The offering is provided through Coinbase Financial Markets and includes crypto futures, commodity contracts, and an index product, giving qualifying traders additional ways to manage exposure or express market views.

The lineup includes 23 perpetual and dated futures covering assets such as bitcoin, ether, and solana. Five commodity futures include gold, silver, and oil, while index access includes COIN50. The mix puts digital assets and selected traditional markets within the same derivatives offering.

Coinbase Financial Markets is registered as a futures commission merchant with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The Canadian rollout includes smaller contract sizes and leverage of up to ten times. Access remains subject to customer eligibility, so the announcement does not make the products universally available to all account holders.

The expansion matters because derivatives can be used for both directional trades and hedging existing positions. Their effect depends on contract design and the exposure taken. For Coinbase, the launch adds another international market to a business increasingly built around a wider set of financial products and services.
