Avalanche activated its Helicon network upgrade on September 22, bringing changes to staking and execution on the C-Chain. The release combines six Avalanche Community Proposals. Most features took effect with mainnet activation, while a change to the staking reward curve will be introduced gradually over the following 90 days. Validators had to update to AvalancheGo version 1.15.0 to follow the upgraded chain.

Helicon reduces the minimum validator staking period from two weeks to 48 hours and adds a way for stakes to renew automatically. The shorter commitment is intended to make validation easier to coordinate with financial products that have redemption schedules. Another proposal raises the validator uptime requirement, placing more weight on operational performance even as staking commitments become more flexible.

The upgrade also introduces Continuous Execution on Avalanche's C-Chain and a dynamic minimum gas price. These are changes to how the network processes activity and responds to transaction demand, rather than a new token launch. For applications that rely on the C-Chain, the effect will depend on how those changes perform under sustained use after activation.

The reward-curve adjustment gradually lowers a key consumption-rate parameter from 10 percent to 7.5 percent. Avalanche's technical documentation says the approach is designed to restore a stronger incentive for longer staking commitments while phasing in the change. AVAX holders and validators therefore face two related shifts: shorter permitted lockups and a revised balance between short-term and long-term staking rewards.
