Payward and the London Stock Exchange have agreed to work on tokenizing leading UK equities. Payward says the 100 largest London-listed companies are expected to become available as xStocks, its tokenized share representations, in the coming weeks. The partners will also study how those assets could connect to regulated trading infrastructure and issuer-backed tokens. Any trading on the proposed LSE 24 venue requires regulatory approval.
xStocks are designed as one-for-one backed representations of listed shares. The tokens can move between supported trading platforms, wallets and blockchain applications, creating a different way to distribute exposure to a familiar company. Payward reported more than $40 billion in total xStocks volume and over 200,000 holders across its existing product at the time of the announcement. Those figures describe the broader framework, not trading in the planned UK lineup.
The London collaboration joins two related but separate ideas. Payward can expand the selection of shares represented by its existing tokens, while the exchange can examine whether a regulated venue can support trading and settlement around them. The firms also plan to explore issuer-sponsored equity tokens, which would bring the company whose shares are represented more directly into the design.
Availability remains subject to location and product rules. Payward's announcement says xStocks are not currently offered in the United Kingdom or United States under its existing structure. That makes the regulatory approval condition central to the London exchange plans. The partnership is a clear commercial step, while the final form of local trading and shareholder rights still depends on implementation.
