The agreement extends the firms' relationship into custody and settlement, supporting LMAX's institutional digital asset business across Europe and the Middle East.
LMAX is the first customer of Standard Chartered Luxembourg's digital asset custody platform following the bank's MiCA authorization in June. The Dubai appointment operates through its regulated DIFC branch. Together, the arrangements give the trading group custody relationships in two significant international financial centers.
The companies previously collaborated on digital asset prime brokerage transactions in July. Their expanded relationship brings more of the supporting services around institutional trading into the same partnership. Custody is particularly important because institutions need to establish where assets are held and who is responsible for protecting them.
Standard Chartered and LMAX are also exploring off-exchange custody arrangements that would combine access to trading liquidity with assets held at a regulated financial institution. That exploration is separate from the appointments already announced. It points toward further work on connecting trading access with independent asset safekeeping.
