Coinbase has appointed Anthony Armstrong to its board of directors and audit committee, adding an executive with investment banking, technology, and government experience. The appointment places him in a governance role at the exchange as it develops a wider range of financial products and institutional services.

Armstrong spent nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley, where he built and led technology mergers-and-acquisitions activities and became vice chairman of investment banking. He later served as a senior adviser at the Department of Government Efficiency and held chief financial officer responsibilities across companies including xAI and X.

The audit committee appointment is a specific part of the announcement, extending his role beyond general board participation. For a listed company, the committee sits within the framework overseeing financial reporting and related controls. His financial background therefore connects directly to the responsibilities identified in the appointment.

Coinbase emphasized his experience operating large organizations and managing technology businesses. The company also clarified that he is not related to chief executive Brian Armstrong. The development concerns the exchange's leadership oversight, giving shareholders a new board member whose experience spans both traditional finance and newer technology companies.
