OKX has launched OKX Shield in Europe, a program that can reimburse eligible customers for losses caused when a third party takes over their account. Protection limits range from €100,000 for standard users to €500,000 for customers in VIP tiers 4 through 6.

Eligibility depends on completing a six-step security setup, including passkeys, multi-factor authentication, and withdrawal safeguards. Customers must activate Shield before an incident and continue meeting the requirements. The program is available to identity-verified users of OKX Europe Limited or OKX Europe Markets Limited.

OKX describes Shield as a voluntary goodwill program rather than deposit insurance, investor compensation, or a statutory guarantee, and reimbursement remains discretionary. Each person can make one approved claim in their lifetime. Market losses, transfers the user authorized, and losses in external wallets, including OKX Wallet, are excluded.

Account takeover remains one of the most common ways retail crypto users lose funds. Linking protection to stronger security settings gives customers a direct reason to enable them. The limits, exclusions, and discretionary terms mean users should read the conditions before relying on the program.
