Kraken adds deposits and withdrawals for Aleo's private USDCx

Kraken now supports deposits and withdrawals of USDCx on Aleo, a stablecoin that keeps balances, counterparties, and transaction amounts encrypted by default. The integration gives users a simpler route into and out of the token, which previously required more technical steps.

USDCx is backed one-to-one by USDC held in Circle's xReserve smart contracts on Ethereum. Before the Kraken listing, obtaining it meant buying USDC, moving it to Ethereum, and minting through a bridge, a process that limited use to people comfortable handling several networks and interfaces.

Aleo is a layer-1 blockchain built around zero-knowledge proofs, which allow the network to confirm that a transaction is valid without revealing its details. That makes it suited to payments where amounts or counterparties are commercially sensitive, such as payroll, supplier settlement, and remittances.

Privacy on public blockchains is often discussed in technical terms. Exchange access is a more ordinary barrier. Kraken's support tests whether easier on and off ramps bring private stablecoin payments to a wider group of users, and how compliance processes work around encrypted transfers.
